What is a Sync?

A sync refers to the flow of information that streams into Retention Pro from your Point of Sale or Shop Management System.

When we sync with your shop management system the information is being transmitted to Retention Pro servers, this includes all of your shop’s data and information which is a crucial ingredient to the success of the features of our system.

How Does a Sync Work?

A sync will basically copy information from your shop management system into Retention Pro. To run these syncs, we require a connection to your system. We will use one of two methods for connecting to your shop management system:

  • Through an "uploader" service that would be installed on your server computer and is used for “SQL” databases and file-based databases.
  • By utilizing an "online source" such as an API or web scraper that usually uses log in credentials like a username and password.

Once a connection has been established and is active, Retention Pro will regularly import information, mirroring the data in your shop management system.

Depending on the type of connection we have with your Point Of Sale system the timing of your syncs may vary.  With some systems a sync will be triggered each time you add new information, such as a new repair order or a new customer, while others automatically sync at regular daily intervals. Please see the article for your Point Of Sale system under the Understanding Your Data In Retention Pro section of our FAQs for details on when and what we will sync.

Everyday we run each shop that is active in our system through various tests to check the 'data health state' of that shop.  This enables us to identify if any further support assistance is required to enhance or repair the connection, allowing us to promptly inform you in the event of any disruptions.
