How to install MV-431 for an MV431 Workstation computer
Things To Note
-
MV431 is reliant on some network settings that need to be checked
-
All computers should be on private network
-
All computers should have password protected sharing turned off
-
All MV-431 computers should have a mv431.bat script set up after install
-
Set up requires files from Z drive as opposed to files from Bolt On Setup.
Please feel free to reach out to our Support team for assistance with this process.
How To
-
Determine the MV431 database host computer
-
That computer has the currently timestamped backend.mdb file. Shops should be backing up this database regularly as it is not included in the SMS backups.
-
Most often this will be the same as the SMS host computer, but can differ so be sure to check timestamps and check book after setting up MV431
-
Host computer also has the shared Template3 folder
-
-
See if on the desired workstation computer if the BOT folder is in the C:\ directory
-
If no BOT folder, you will have to run the Pro Pack Setup as if it was a pro pack install, however you have to uncheck all of the programs
-
If there is a BOT folder, make sure that there is a Pro Pack button in the management system (if applicable) or a Pro Pack shortcut on the desktop. Ensure it correctly reads from the SMS database if applicable.
-
-
Move over install files to desired computer
-
Z drive contain files needed for MV431 install
-
Navigate to Z:\TechSupport\_INSTALL\install_mv431\Install and copy those files to the existing C:\BOT\Install folder
-
Navigate to Z:\TechSupport\_INSTALL\install_mv431 and copy over everything aside from the install folder to the existing C:\BOT folder. If you accidently copy the install folder, do not choose to overwrite the existing folder.
-
-
-
Map Z network drive to Template 3 share from host computer
-
If the Z drive is already in use, use best judgement to pick another drive letter
-
The ‘This PC’ entry in file explorer will have a tab at the top called ‘Computer’. In that Computer menu you can map the network drive
-
You can type in the path or use the browse button to find the Template3 shared folder on the host.
-
If you are not able to find the share or navigate to it, there is most likely a network or permissions issue
-
Ensure password protected sharing is off on all computers, double check the private/public network, and ensure the Template3 share on the host is enabled and has full permissions for everyone
-
-
-
-
Run MV-431 setup
-
This is located in C:\BOT\Install which was transferred earlier.
-
It is NOT the setup.exe in the C:\BOT folder, it is a specific installer to MV-431
-
The setup wizard will ask what type of installation you would like to perform, choose Typical
-
This creates the ERP entry in ODBC needed for MV-431 to find the database
-
-
Open ODBC data source administrator 32 bit and assign backend.mdb from Z drive to ERP entry
-
If ERP entry is not present, rerun setup.exe. If that doesn’t create the ERP entry, you can attempt to manually create.
-
32 bit Microsoft Access Database
-
Data source name:ERP
-
Description: DataTech Solutions ERP Database
-
The Z drive might not be visible in the ERP entry, you may have to remake it from the network button in the ERP entry
-
-
-
Set MV-431 settings.
-
3 locations to set most popular settings
-
File>Options>Options tab
-
Labor Text string, which allows MV431 to write back to SMS labor line
-
Default county where shop is located
-
Minimum thresholds for passing inspection
-
Don’t forget to hit Save on Options menu
-
-
File>Options>Global Settings tab
-
Set excel sheet and tech worksheet locations
-
Blank excel sheet should be set to C:\BOT\Template3\BLANK-MV-431.xls
-
Blank Excel MV-431 Tech Worksheet should be set to C:\BOT\Template3\BLANK_MV-431_WorkSheet.xls
-
These should always be set locally. Setting to shared drive will cause issues between computers.
-

-
Set Shop Information
-
Set Shop Name
-
Set Shop Number
-
-
Set Database Host Information
-
For the workstation, select the not database host option at the middle of the box.

-
Alternatively, you can open the reg file in Notepad to see the previous settings
-
-
-
Open MV-431 from SMS and ensure that MV431 opens and reads the work order correctly
-
Setup .bat file, use wiki article (link here)
-
Export workstation reg file for settings to customer folder. Registration path: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\DataTech
Common Issues:
-
Runtime error 3704
Z drive not connected
Database in Z drive is not mapped in ERP entry
Password protected sharing is on
Computer is on a public network
-
Runtime Error 0
You may have to register the ocx and dll files from C:\BOT\Install. Copy the ssubtmr6.dll and vbalGrid6.ocx files to C:\windows\system32 or C:\windows\syswow64 depending on if it is a 32 bit or 64 bit windows system.
Open command prompt in Run as Administrator mode and run the following commands:
64 bit os:
regsvr32.exe c:\windows\syswow64\ssubtmr6.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\windows\syswow64\vbalGrid6.ocx
Each line should be run individually and after entering the line, hit enter and you should get a prompt that says you successfully registered the file
32 bit os:
regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\ssubtmr6.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\vbalGrid6.ocx

MV431 Open in Task Manager but not opening on desktop
May take time as mv431 is looking for misnamed host computer in settings
Close from task manager and open mv431 from C:\BOT then edit database host settings.
Edit database host setting in registration
