This is a standard method that works for installing a Vertex CallerID box in a mesh network with VoIP phone service where the VoIP data on the LAN is communicating on an unencrypted UDP protocol.
Things To Note
-
A managed switch is required
-
A managed switch defaults with one VLAN with all ports untagged so it performs as auto switching
-
Disable loop detection if it is enabled. VLAN 2 for the Vertex may cause the switch to crash due to error logging as VLAN 2 is essentially looping the data to itself.
How To
-
Log in to your managed switch
-
Configure two VLAN’s
-
VLAN 1
-
All default LAN ports used for all data and phone devices
-
Be sure to remove the two available ports being used in VLAN 2
-
-
VLAN 2
-
Name it Vertex for easy identification purposes
-
Assign the two available ports as tagged members
-
Configure the ports to use 100M Half-Duplex
-
If PPoE is used, disable it on these ports as well
-
-
-
- Mirror Port 1 on the switch to one of the available ports used in VLAN 2
